In this video we demonstrate some of the core concepts we train for defense against knife attacks, in this case at close quarters situations. All techniques are applied from an initial grab of the opponent's knife-holding arm with our own two arms, everything starts from there. After that, some short of manipulation follows and then a takedown which will lead to a possible joint break or dislocation or a barrage of strikes on the fallen opponent from a position of control.
In our view, it is important to always focus on the hand that holds the knife and be prepared to literally storm your opponent and apply serious force. Don't try to disarm without first controlling the person's structure and balance. Control first, disarm after.
Obviously, this is a very wrestling-oriented approach. In a future video we will show some additional striking options, as well as how to deal with a charging, knife-wielding opponent.
We consider knife attacks the most dangerous self defense situations and we train for knife defense only in case there is no chance to run away as fast as we can. We DON'T want to fight against a knife, that would be the very last (and worst) option. Yet if we have to, we must be ferocious and try to deal some very serious (but justified) damage.
