In our view, footwork is a huge part of what makes takedowns work against resisting opponents. One such footwork concept that we use a lot in our wrestling curriculum is to step sideways and place one foot behind your opponent’s foot (mostly, but not exclusively, his lead foot), shift your weight behind him, break his structure and take him down. In this video we demonstrate the basic mechanics and tactics of this concept, as well as some takedown options to follow with.
