Heavy bag training has long been regarded as an important aspect of combat sports and the ideal tool for building power and stamina. However, the use of heavy bag in non-competitive martial arts is much less widespread, while many contemporary self defence systems that do use it fairly frequently, rely almost exclusively on the traditional sports approach, boxing gloves et al.
In “Bare Knuckle Blaster: Heavy bag training for Russian martial art, street fighting and self defense” STORM R.C.S. founder Vasilis Stamatiou introduces a different approach, focused on training with bare knuckles on the bag and heavily based on a variety of Russian fist fighting styles (commonly known as “kulachni boi”, “combat with fists”) and Russian contemporary self defense systems (commonly known as “rukopashnii boi”, “hand-to-hand combat”). In the video are also presented biomechanical explanations, breathing patterns, movement exercises and specific tactics for self defense.
Sections include:
- Warm up and breathing drills
- Power and mechanics drills
- Waves on the heavy bag
- Speed drills
- Coordination and footwork drills
- Russian fist fighting drills
- Skill building drills
- Tactical drills
